My Introduction

My name is Paul-Emmanuel Kata, and I am a native from Ivory Coast, West Africa. Since I was a child I have always wanted to live and study in the United States, and especially in California. I am currently attending Los Angeles Valley College, and my objective is to transfer to a four-year university to study Business Administration. Being a businessman has always been a dream of mine. I plan to obtain a bachelor degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance. What motivated me to major in business are the different opportunities that this program offers. The business program would give me the the opportunity to become a leader of tomorrow and the power to shape the world and provide society with innovative babiservices and products. My career goals are to work as a financial analyst, and later on create my own company. A career as a financial analyst can be intellectually stimulating and financially rewarding. I also plan to improve my technical financial analysis skills and knowledge of financial analysis software. The tools used in financial planning departments have dramatically changed from simple spreadsheet software to sophisticated planning and reporting packages. I believe that learning these advanced tools will help me rise up the ranks in the financial department, as well as qualify for a higher salary. Since I have a big family, money will be important, and my career will satisfy my needs. As I plan to become a financial analyst, I believe that an important factor for success is the preparation for my career path. My approach is to look for summer internships with the help of the career service center before I finish completing my bachelor’s degree program. I also plan to attend on-campus job fairs to introduce myself to prospective employers and learn about their companies and organizations. In order to have a competitive advantage on the job market, I will also seek a minor in Information Systems during my academic program. I believe that a valuable worker is someone who excels in class, has a diverse skill set, and gains work experience. Besides, I plan to study a semester abroad in order to broaden my horizons and learn about the business culture of other countries and continents, which is crucial for any businessman who wants to become successful. The study abroad program would help me learn a new language as well. As I am already fluent in English and French, learning a third language would be beneficial for my future business career.

  1. You seem like you have everything planned out already. That is awesome! I also am going to transfer to a four year college but I will be majoring in Accounting. It is already great that you know two languages but even better that you are going to learn another one. That will give you an extra edge for sure in this competitive industry. I can see that you are also a hard worker. Instead of taking the summer off like a lot of college students will do, you are going to be working towards your goals.

I get a little nervous when i think about transferring next semester but I just reassure myself of what my ultimate goal is. That goal is to become a successful accountant for a big company. I do not have kids and I am recently divorce. I want to make a lot of money to give back to my family and also to help build an organization to help others. I wish you luck on your career path and that all your goals are accomplished.

  2. Thank you. I am confident that you that you’ll be able to reach your goals. Like you, I wanna make a lot of money to provide for my family. I am dreaming about the day I would be able to buy a house or luxury cars for my parents. They did a lot for me, and it would be nice to return the favor.

  3. As an international student I can say that if one day you go study abroad, it will change your life, and you’ll come back as a new person. Study abroad provides many opportunities to see the world and experience other cultures. Besides that, it will help you with:
    • Language acquisition or improvement
    • Understanding of your personal heritage
    • Understanding of your own culture and values
    • Increased independence and self reliance
    • Increase self confidence and leadership skills
    • Enhanced academic interest
    • Advance your career
Overall, I learned a lot more about myself in the time I am studying here –the past two and a half years-than the 18 years I lived in Brazil.

  4. Hi, Paul-Emmanuel

It is great that you know what you want to do in your life. Looks like you have defined your goals and on the way to achieve them. Finance is not an easy subject to study, unless you really enjoy it. Additionally, it is very competitive and you are correct that you have to do your best in school. Good luck!

Studying abroad is a great idea. This kind of experience is very valuable and beneficial. Any ideas where you would like to study and what third language you want to master?

  5. I see that you are very organized. You have pre-planned your future very well. It is very nice that you have a passion for you career and you know exactly what you want from an early age spanning as far back as your childhood. I also love the fact that you want money for purposes other than to satisfy your own greediness, but for a special reason, to support and provide for your family. That trait makes you a caring and a kind man.
The fact that you know two languages is very good, and its even better that you want to continue to study more languages. How great it is to have such dedicated a student as your self to study abroad. You can now see the world from a different perspective. One thing I can say for sure, is experiencing business first hand in a new country is very beneficial for you business career.
